Portrait 1.   Expose the subject's face and background the same.

Portrait 2.   Keep the same aperture setting or lens f-stop in the previous portrait, adjust the power of strobe and make an exposure on the subject's face one stop under the background. The background should be normally exposed.

Portrait 3.   Subject's face is normally exposed and background is two stops under-exposed.

Portrait 4.   Experiment and come up with your most favorite light ratios on subject's face vs. background. Take notes of exposure settings and f-stop differences.
